Christmas Dinner

My sister-in-law prepared the salmon starter,

and my husband roasted a goose,

using Mary Berry's recipe.

  I didn't eat it as I don't like bananas.

バナナは苦手なので私は食べなかった。

Roly Saul

We had a  meal at Roly Saul, 

one of my favourite restaurants in Dublin,

to celebrate a publication of the first novel

by one of my husband's relatives.

夫の親族の1人が

定年退職後に書き始めた小説が出版された。

そのお祝いのために

私の大好きなレストラン

Roly Saulでみんなで食事した。

I haven't read the novel yet,

as my husband's still reading it,

but I'm looking forward to reading it.

Beavertails

Ottawa's famous pastries--Beavertails!

We tried it in Byward Market.

オタワ名物ビーバーテイル。

ビーバーの尻尾の形をしたドーナッツ。

We tried Killaloe sunrise,

as we went there from Ireland.

キラルー・サンライズを食べた。

（キラルーとはアイルランドにある地名。）

It was nicer than I had expected.

Tim Horntons

Even though some of Tim Horntons doughnuts are available in Ireland, 

we had to try one as we are in Canada, the home of Tim Horntons!

カナダでは避けることのできない

ティム・ホーントンズのドーナッツ。

数種類だけだが売っている。

Dobbins

We went to Dobbins to celebrate

our 12th wedding anniversary on 1st August.

結婚12周年のお祝いに

Dobbinsで食事をした。

It was not too formal to be pretentious, 

and the staff are friendly and helpful.

The chips were the best chips I've ever had.

フレンチフライが美味しかった。

これを食べるためだけにでも

また行きたい（笑）。

Pavlova.

Home Baked Baguettes

I wanted to eat a baguette but 

it's very difficult to get a nice baguette in Ireland.

So I baked it!

アイルランドで美味しいバゲットを入手するのは難しい。

そこで頑張って自分で焼いてみた。

 It was worth it.

頑張った甲斐があった。

Bewley's Kenya Blue Mountain Coffee

A coffee lover friend of mine, who lived in Japan for 15 years,

told me the other day that she buys blue mountain coffee at 

Bewley's on Grafton Street.

I never knew I could buy blue mountain coffee in Ireland.

アイルランドでブルーマウンテンコーヒーが

買うことができるのは知らなかった。

早速、グラフトン通りのビューリーズに買いに行った。

As we own an electric coffee grinder,

I bought beans.

電動ミルがあるのでコーヒー豆を購入。

Lipton - Infusions Grand Sud

Tried this Lipton - Infusions Grand Sud　

when I was staying at a hotel in Paris,

and I really liked it.

When I saw it in Relay, I had to buy it

together with 'Russian Earl Grey'. 

初めミントの味がして、

その後あまーい風味が漂う不思議な感覚。

フランスにしか売ってないようで残念。

私はコーヒーより断然お茶派。

以前に別のブログで書いた

Russian Earl Greyと共に

リプトンのお気に入りのお茶に決定。

My Favourites

I've already left Japan but I list out my favourite sweets in Japan.

日本からもう離れたけど、

今度は私のお気に入りのスイーツを挙げてみる。

＊Snaffles' Forest Cakes （スナッフルスの森のケーキ）

This is really my most favourite!

 

These are not sweets, but I really loved fruits in Japan,

especially different types of oranges--

dekopon, buntan, hassaku, amanatsu,

and grapes--Pione, kyoho...

スイーツではないけど、

文旦、デコポン、ハッサク、甘夏などの

オレンジ類、

そしてピオーネ、巨峰等の葡萄が

本当に美味しくて感動。

果物や野菜は私が日本に住んでいた

20年前に比べるとずっと美味しくなっている

ような気がした。

I think the taste and flavour of fruits and vegetables in Japan

have improved a lot for the past 20 years

while I was living in Ireland. 

My Husband's Favourites

As our stay in Japan is near at the end now,

I try to look back and list out the sweets my husband loved in Japan.

日本での1年1ヶ月の滞在も終わりに近づいて来たので、

夫が日本で気に入ったお菓子を挙げてみる（順不同）。

＊Strawberry Daifuku （いちご大福）

＊Gateau Festa Harada's Rusk （ガトーフェスタハラダのラスク）

＊Sapporo A'zor Doughnuts （札幌アゾルのドーナツ）

＊Mamemoch Arare（豆餅あられ）

＊Chocolate Crunch Ice Cream （チョコクランチアイスクリーム）

そしてアイルランドにはドーナツ屋がないので、

ミスタードーナッツにはかなり入れ込んでいたことも追記。 

また、日本みたいに美味しいケーキ屋さんやベーカリーもないので、

あちらに戻るとかなり寂しく思うことであろう。

I must add that he'll miss nice bakeries and cake shops in Japan 

after we're gone back to Ireland.

 

Lokum

I was visiting a friend in Zushi, Kanagawa,

and she offered me some lokum

which she had been given from her friend.

At that time I didn't know what it was

as it looked very different from the Turkish Delight I know.

私の知っているトルコのお菓子は、

ターキッシュディライトだけで、

それとは随分違うけど美味しかった。

何と言う名前なのか分からなかったが、

その翌日トルコ人の方に会う機会があったので

写真を見せてみると

これもターキッシュディライトの

一種なんだそうだ。

Valentine's Day Cakes

My husband bought cakes at Jugchheim for St. Valentine's Day.

欧州ではバレンタインデーは男性から女性へプレゼントする。

夫の会社では義理チョコ禁止みたい。

（チョコレートいっぱい持って帰って来るかと

ちょっと期待してたけど。）

Pancake Tuesday

Is 12 February in 2013.

It's the same day as Shrove Tuesday.

カトリックの習慣で、灰の水曜日の前の日、

レントが始まる日の前の日の火曜日に、

パンケーキ（クレープ）を食べる。

だからと言って明日から、好物を断つ訳じゃないけど（苦笑）。

New Year Dishes

3 layered Osechi Ryori, z‪ō‬ni and Sekihan.
Osechi was delivered to our house from a shop :-p,
but I made zoni and sekihan.
I am a native Osaka woman so I made the zoni
in Kansai style with white miso, anago and round rice cake.
It turned out to be very nice breakfast, indeed for
the first day of Year of the Dragon.

おせち料理は手抜きしてネットでオーダー。
実は２人ともあまりおせちの大ファンという訳ではないので、
和洋中の３種類があるものを選んだ。
美味しかった、結構。
